On Wednesday 5th March, Mount Seskin’s JCSP Library hosted study skills workshops for our Junior Cert students, with facilitator Ger Robinson.
Ger has been working with the school for a number of years to provide these workshops to Junior and Leaving Certificate students. These workshops cover a number of areas but in particular are built around:
- how to organise their notes and learning
- how to approach studying individual topics
- how to manage their time in a day and week
- how an individual study session should be approached
- the language and verbiage used in exam papers
Ger Robinson is an engaging speaker with a wealth of experience working with young people and is very aware of the pressures and needs faced by students, so is able to engage with them at the levels they need, and creates a friendly, positive atmosphere in his workshops.
Students were surveyed earlier in the week on their mocks and how they felt and what they felt could improve and all those issues were addressed directly in the workshop. The feedback following the workshops has been overwhelmingly positive and students have presented a renewed confidence and positive attitude towards preparing for their upcoming state exams.
Thanks to Shane our librarian, Mr Doyle & Third Year teachers for supporting.
